All set as INEC reproduces burnt election materials, move them to affected states


- The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has reproduced election materials burnt in Plateau state
- INEC says further that it has replaced burnt card readers and delivered them to some local government areas in Anambra
- The electoral umpire says it is working hard to ensure that seven remaining local governments in Anambra get their card readers ahead of the election
Election materials razed down by fire in some states of Nigeria may have been replaced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the election umpire has reportedly offloaded ballot boxes in Plateau state.
The ballot boxes and voting cubicles were offloaded at the Qu’an Pan local government area of the state, Channels Television reports.
The report also quoted a statement by the INEC as saying that the printing of voters’ register for all polling units have been completed.
Apart from this, the commission also announced it has relocated the burnt office to a new place ahead of the election.
Meanwhile, INEC also announced that it has replaced the about 4,000 burnt card readers and other materials in Anambra state.
In a statement on Friday, February 15, INEC said said the replaced card readers had been configured and delivered to many of the local government areas with seven left.
It named the seven local governments yet to receive theirs as Ayamelum, Ogbaru, Idemili North, Idemili South, Aguata, Awka North and Oyi.
According to vanvickson sources it was also reported how, ahead of 2019 presidential election, gunmen wearing military uniform on Thursday, February 14, attacked a vehicle belonging to INEC in Benue state.
The vehicle was reported to be conveying non-sensitive election materials to one of the LGAs in the state.
This was disclosed by the state INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Dr Nentawe Yilwatda.
According to him, at the time of the attack, the vehicle was carrying non-sensitive materials to Logo area of the state.
“This is true. Recently, our vehicle which was conveying non sensitive materials was attacked along Logo area by people in military uniform," he said.
Meanwhile, INEC has expressed satisfaction with its preparation for the presidential and National Assembly elections, which will hold on Saturday, February 16.
Speaking on Thursday, February 14, on the readiness of the commission, the INEC’s national commissioner and chairman of information and voter education committee, Festus Okoye, disclosed that all hands are on deck to ensure the credible conduct of the polls.
