Peter Obi's reaction on 2019 election postponement as house of rep kicks strong
Indication has emerged on the attitude of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Peter Obi after the presidential election was postponed.
According to The Punch, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Peter Obi, is calm over the postponement of Saturday’s elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, his media aide, Val Obienyem, has said.
While condemning the postponement, Obi’s aide described INEC’s action as unexplainable. He said Obi returned to his Agulu home in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state on Friday to cast his vote only for the elections to be postponed. He said, “How can INEC convince anybody that it suddenly discovered its unpreparedness on the day of the election?”
“What of foreign observers already in the country? What of those that travelled home from their destinations? What of those contesting that had already paid their agents? There are many questions begging for answers.”
He added, “Early this morning I came to Mr. Peter Obi’s house to know the next line of action. Knowing what happened, any person in his shoes will naturally feel pensive but from my long association with him, he remains calm at worst situations that will ordinarily drive other men out of their wits.
“Confirming what I have always known about him, on reaching the house, I was told he left early for morning mass. When he came back from mass, I jokingly told him he was looking relaxed when every other person was almost mourning. He replied, Val nothing has changed about my belief that God’s will is supreme at all times. He always speaks like a God-intoxicated man, which is worthy of imitation.”
In another development, the House of Representatives, on Saturday decried the postponement of the general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC.
The Spokesman of the House of Reps, Abdulrazak Namdas (APC-Adamawa), in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, described the postponement as “unfortunate.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Saturday shifted the elections few hours to the opening of polling units. The commission blamed the postponement on logistics challenges that could affect the process negatively.
Namdas expressed hope that the postponement would be a blessing in disguise for the country.
“It is unfortunate that it has happened like this, we hope that the outcome of the postponement will be the best for Nigerians. I hope that it is a blessing in disguise, it is better to have an election that is credible than to rush and do the elections with issues,” he said.
